Card Processing Fees Only Part of the Story
If you look at a half dozen companies offering merchant services, you’re going to see pricing for those services seems all over the map. And that may make you wonder how you make a smart decision. The good news is that reputable merchant services companies will usually state all their fees up front, which let’s you comparison shop; literally comparing apples to apples. Indeed, any company that is sketchy about their costs is a company you don’t want to do business with. But don’t make the choice on what plan appears to be the cheapest, because a merchant accounts company that looks like it costs the least can often have an endless list of small fees that can add up over time and wipe out what you thought you’d be saving. Be careful with startup fees as well. Some companies charge $200 just to consider your application, which can be dent in your wallet with no guarantee you’ll get anything for your money.
